Scrolling through social media, I'm noticing the whataboutism starting. For one, it is not anti-brown or white to protest black issues and second, why is it that Blacks are constantly held responsible for fighting every fight just because we are asking cops to stop murdering our black brothers and sisters in masses. Just as I saw many brown ppl speaking up for us regarding George Floyd, we will do the same for Vanessa Guillen. But why is the weight being put on us (Blacks)? How about asking yourself about your contribution to ending injustices? Organize a protest, sign petitions, ask why there so much attention given to “missing white girls” compared to black and brown girls, and the odds of them being found much higher? Black activists have worked hard for years and years to form protest and bring attention to our injustices and murders. Cops have been killing unarmed blacks since the slavery days... Like, come on y’all smh... Non-black Latinx must put in the work too. We’re all being affected by racism but stop holding BLM responsible for everything. Our struggle has been extremely heavy already, a little help wouldn’t hurt. This isn’t a new issue, assimilation, misogyny, patriarchy, imperialism, sexual harassment, rape, and murder of women in the military is all too common... Let talk about what it means to serve the US army, lets talk about the military-industrial complex. Let's talk about military recruiting at poor high schools filled with people of color. How many people feel compelled to join to prove their “Americanness”? Start a scholarship in her name. Honor Venessa by dismantling the institutes and systems responsible for murdering her and trying to make her disposable like, like they did LaVena Johnson and others that have been killed and forgotten.
Children in detention, cages... Yet, y’all comparing deaths. All of these people matter, ALL THE TIME!! Not only when it’s convenient. I am in support of helping any way that I can, I will be at the protests, etc. But what I’m not going to do is sit around and compare Venessa and George’s murder.
